Invasive Species Awareness Weekend
June is Invasive Species Action Month
June is Invasive Species Action Month, a time to raise awareness about the impacts invasive species have on our natural areas and to encourage action that helps protect native habitats. Invasive species can spread rapidly, crowd out native plants, and disrupt the balance of local ecosystems.
To help celebrate Invasive Species Action Month, DCIST is partnering with Peninsula and Whitefish Dunes State Parks for Invasive Species Awareness Weekend. This special weekend offers an opportunity for community members to get involved, learn more about invasive species, and take part in hands-on efforts to help protect our parks and natural areas.
Participants will help remove invasive species and learn simple steps they can take to prevent spreading them in the future. It’s a great way to give back to the environment while learning more about the ecosystems that make Door County so special.
Please bring closed-toe shoes, gloves, bug spray, and a water bottle. A vehicle admission pass is required.
